Consignment / Deposit your works at l’Euguélionne

Are you an artist or a collective of authors and wish to deposit your works on consignments at the bookstore? You can!

We take fiction, essays and hybrid works related to the bookstore’s mission! For questions of installation and limited space, we will take zines, printed works, posters, macaroons, pins, etc. (no candles, clothes or board games for example). We also refuse, for ethical reasons, printed on demand works only sold through the Amazon company.

Here’s how:

Conditions

We take 35% of the selling price of the book, which means that if you want to recover $6.5 for each copy sold, we will sell the book at $10 in the bookstore. Similarly, if you want the book / zine / magazine to sell for $ 6.50, you will have a profit of $4.23 ($6.50 x 65%).

Why 35%? The percentage of consignment profit can vary considerably depending on the bookstore and the author of the consignment. We have the consideration of leaving the maximum of the profits to the artist, but we must pay a room, wages and we carry out the work of follow-up of the consignments!

We take the books on consignment for 6 months and re-evaluate the contract at that time, around the 15th of each two month. That is to say: we pay for the copies sold and decide whether to take new ones, keep the remaining quantities or return some.

How does it work for your first consignment?

In the bookstore, we will take your works on consignment (the number of copies really depends on the content and several other factors, you can call us before if you don’t want to carry too much). However, we recommend that you do not come during an event or in the hour preceding this event (see our calendar of events) since we are often very busy during these times and may not be available to take care of the consignments.

A contract is then created and emailed to you. If you don’t receive it by the day after depositing, check your spam box then let us know!

We refuse consignment works sent by post, except in the case of a prior agreement, and they will be returned at your expense.

We also have to specify that the consignees do not have the right to choose the location(s) of the display of the work in bookstores and that they will be arranged at the discretion of the themes of the work (it is possible to mention them to us however!), of the medium choice , the format and the good judgment of our booksellers.

Can my work be sold through the bookseller’s online store?

Yes! It is possible for zine and book consignments to be displayed on the online store in English (we do not have the possibility of manually adding titles on the leslibraires.ca platform in French,; if your book has an ISBN, it is however possible to contact the platform directly to add it). However, we do not put the cards, pins, notebooks and posters deposited on the store for timing and practical reasons.

It is possible to send, to the email address consignations@librairieleuguelionne.com, as many details as you want for the online store: cover, summary, author biography, literary price, publication date, language , number of pages, publisher, series, age, citation of reviews, etc !!! Please allow a little time to add them to the website as this must be done manually by one of our booksellers

.

Comparison between a zine with a cover and details and a zine without any detail (apart from an ISBN and a title)

The only impossible additions to the webstore are excerpts from pages of the book / zine or an image from the back cover (we only have room for a cover image). We unfortunately cannot sell digital copies either.

At the end of the consignment contract

You can pick up your money as soon as you receive the email notifying you of the sales (check your spam!).

How to read your sales statement [page in french only for the moment, I’ll try to translate it as soon as possible!]

If you haven’t had any sales (this happens a lot, don’t worry!) You will also receive an email notifying you.
If after a year you haven’t sold anything, it is quite possible that we will ask you to come and collect your consignments.

How does the payment works

“I live far away from the bookstore! “

No problem! For payments in countries outside of Canada, please contact us BEFORE depositing your copies on consignment in order to find a solution together to avoid transfer fees at a loss for us (waiting another six months, paying an invoice paypal, using someone’s trip to this country, etc.).
